LUTHIERING

As a working guitarist, I have taught myself how to repair and maintain my instrument to keep it gig-ready. This includes levelling and crowning worn frets, adjusting the truss rod,  setting intonation and replacing and soldering electrical components. This sparked my fascination with how guitars work and how they are made. Through this fascination, I have taken on multiple projects.

Thinline Parts-Caster

This parts-caster was assembled using a neck from body GFS. The neck was already finished in polyurethane but the body was unfinished. The neck pickup is a Roswell Filtertron style humbucker and the bridge pickup is a Hotrails inspired humbucker with a partial coil-split.

Using a router, I widened the neck pickup cavity to fit the Filtertron style pickup and routed around the body to fit the binding. I used a warm hairdryer to bend the binding to shape and used acetone to adhere it to the body. The body was then prepared by pore-filling, grain filling any imperfections in the wood, sanding the body up to around 800-1000 grit. and finally sealed with nitrocellulose sanding sealer.

I then sprayed the body with black nitrocellulose
